We took Lissa and Joshua to their 18 month appointment on Monday and they are as healthy as can be. Lissa is now 32.5 inches tall (70th percentile!) and weighs 23 lbs, 2 oz (45th percentile). This is highest she's been on the charts in both height and weight. Joshua is 33 inches tall (70th percentile) and weighs 26 lbs, 8 oz (60th percentile).
They are doing a great job developmentally. They're champion walkers (Joshua has now mastered the run) and do a great job climbing the stairs. They know how to go down the stairs, but aren't very interested in doing it, so we end up carrying them down the stairs most of the time. Lissa is definitely our little monkey. She likes to go under her highchair and leap over the tray (when it's not in use and attached to lower part of the back legs) head first so she can get to the other side.
Joshua has now joined Lissa as a lover of books. They just love to read their books. Joshua also likes to pull all of the books off the bookshelf...
One of their favorites games involves dumping their legos out of the bin and putting them back in. They also love to push their trucks and doggie around the house. Lissa loves to find her "pretty bracelet" (came with a toy purse) and put it on. Joshua loves to play Wii with his Daddy. Joshua also loves trucks. He points out every one on the road when we're in the car. The kids have rediscovered their Bumbos. They have figured out how to get into them on their own and love to sit down, read a book, then get back out again (and do it again, and again, and again). Joshua loves to spin in circles and has taught Lissa how to do it. The love to spin around and laugh at each other.
They are able to speak a few words - their very favorite is "nana" (banana), they also say "mama, dada, Josh, and Lissa." Josh sounds more like "Sos" and Joshua usually calls Lissa "Didda." They both have said "Sssssssa" (with an accent on the "a") for Lissa as well.
Their sign language vocabulary hasn't changed sign I last posted about it. They now fold their arms for prayers and are working on learning to sign truck and duck.
Both kids can identify their nose, mouth, eyes, ears, hair, belly button, and toes. A funny story about that: The other day I asked Joshua to find his belly button so he lifted up his shirt and showed me. Lissa was wearing a onesie (they only thing she's allowed to sleep in since she takes off her clothes and diaper) and decided she needed to find her belly button too so she pulled out her onesie at the neck and stuck her hand down to touch her belly button. Silly goof ball.
The kids are, for the most part, still great eaters. They are getting to the stage where they want to be independent and feed themselves - even the stuff that needs to be eaten with a spoon. Joshua is especially wanting to do this. They don't like to eat their veggies unless they are eating it on their own. Fortunately, they'll still let us feed them their yogurt, applesauce, peaches, pineapple, and oatmeal :) Joshua LOVES grapes; Lissa LOVES oatmeal with apples. Both kids love bananas (thus that being one of their first words) and peaches.
My favorite part about the stage they are now in is that they play together much more. It used to be that they just played side by side, but not really together so they still required more of our attention. Now they really play together and have a blast. It's not only adorable, but it makes things much easier around here. I can actually accomplish things while they're playing. They still have their occasional spats (both wanting to play with the same toy), but they are usually able to work those out on their own. We've taught them that if they want a toy their sibling has they should get another toy and try to trade. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't :)
It's so fun to watch Lissa and Joshua grow up. They are great kids and I love them so much!
