Poor Joshua has had a rough January. It all started when he developed a nasty cold on January 1st. The cough from that cold seem to last forever. Just as it was going away it came back with a vengeance. So we took him to the doctor this past Monday where he was diagnosed with croup. Poor kiddo. They gave him the steroid shot so he will hopefully be feeling better very soon.
Yesterday we took Joshua to a therapist to have his head shape checked out. It is a tiny bit off, but the therapist said it's not really much to worry about and there not much that can be done at this point anyway. But he did find that Joshua can't rotate his neck as far as he should be able to. So we get to do stretches with him every day (which he hates of course) and go back to the therapist often while we fix this little problem.
Poor little Joshie. He gets all of the bad stuff... hole in the heart, more problems with apnea and bradycardia, flu, pink eye, cold, croup, and now this neck stuff. Little Lissa has really lucked out - she had a stomach virus at the beginning of the month and that's the first time she's been sick!
The therapy appointment was quite productive though. Jason and I both wanted to be at the appointment so we brought Lissa along. The therapist noticed, as we have, that one of Joshua's eyelids droops a little and one of Lissa's eyes looks to the center a little more than any other way (the doctor has noticed this too). So he gave us the name of an optomitrist who does free screenings so we can get their eyes checked. The therapist also gave us some tips on teaching Lissa to crawl. I know what you're thinking, "Why would you want her to crawl? Enjoy it while it lasts!" I would, but it's hard to do when she gets so upset because her brother comes and steals her toys, tries to bite her, etc. The kid really needs to be able to crawl in order to defend herself! :) We've already started working with her on crawling and she's making great progress.
At Joshua's appointment on Monday he was, naturally, measured and weighed. He is now officially over half my height. Yep, that's right, he's not even 11 months yet and he's one inch over half my height! (31 inches) He also weighes 23 1/2 pounds. He's so huge. Everytime I carry him people say things like, "He's going to be carrying you soon!" Yes he is. Why do you think I'm working so hard to teach him to walk? (btw, he's making great progress at that) My sister, Shelly, is the only person I know who really wants her kids to learn to walk ASAP. This is because her girls are very tall, and therefore heavy, for their age. I very much so understand her desire for walking kids!
It really is the best thing ever when they begin to walk. Go Joshua!!! Start walking and give your mom a break.
